The Payable Tags Concept

One thing that keeps popping into my head is the perceived value of "free ebooks". Rebrandable or not, free ebooks seems to carry this smell of low quality, make-me-quick-buck solution that turn large quantities of people away.

I'm seeing it happening here to. People would come to SimplyRebranded to rebrand an ebook only to leave their rebranded copy without ever sending it to anyone. And these ebooks are not all just one-shot moneymakers, they provide real value too.

One way to battle this phenomena of "free is junk" on simplyrebranded.com are what I call "payable tags".

What are payable tags?

Payable tags are, like any other tags, placeholders you've put in you ebook for affiliates to rebrand but with a price tag on them.

This raises the perceived value of your ebook because now Jane has to pay you to get your ebook rebranded.

When publishing your ebook on simplyrebranded.com you get to say what tags you have used in your ebook. With payable tags, you will also say "to rebrand this tag, you should pay me $XX" where XX is the amount you think is right for this tag.

Publisher account has no limit on the amount per payable tag or the number of payable tags used in your ebooks. And you can mix payable and free tags in your ebooks as you want.

Here's how affiliates will see payable tags:

And after selecting which tags to pay for, affiliates will preview their order and pay you via Paypal:

After paying for rebrandable tags, payee will land on rebranding page to finish rebranding your ebook.

Why should you care about payable tags?

The key point with payable tags is to use correct default values for your tags! Not everybody will decide to pay for rebranding payable tags, many will only rebrand the free ones. When this happens, simplyrebranded will use the default values for payable tags - the values you've put in as default.

This way people will promote your affiliate links along with theirs. If they'd pay to rebrand your payable tags, they could rebrand them. If not, well... You get the picture. :)

So payable tags solves two problems:
  • they give your ebooks higher perceived value (it's not free, so it must have some value) and
  • you'll make some money with people rebranding your ebooks (remember, you decide on the price per each tag!)
It's a win-win situation and you cannot lose.

I have payable tags working on my development server and will make them available to public sometime next week.

Of course, payable tags will only be available to Publishers. Demo accounts can only use free tags.

Hi, in looking at the situation I believe payable tags will work great for free ebooks ( rebrandable or not ) that have affiliate links that SELL products or services. Non-payable tags will work best for free ebooks that are more geared toward network, referral, downline, and list building in conjunction with FREE Paid-To-Do products and services like pay-per-install, pay-per-lead, pay-per-download and some CPA offers, because they do not require purchasing to make money. Just simply sharing the same free offers!

Thanks!
